Where to Grab Authentic Chinese in Kansas City
As the largest city in Missouri, Kansas City offers plenty of options when it comes to finding an excellent dining experience. Recommended choices range from simple comfort food to lavish nights on the town. One thing that Kansas City always gets right at any price point, though, is Chinese food. Options in this cuisine range from basic takeout to sit-down dining. We’ve highlighted a few of our favorite options here in order to help point you in the right direction.
Blue Koi Noodles and Dumplings
Located on West 39th St., Blue Koi Noodles and Dumplings is particularly renowned for its excellent menu of appetizers and dumplings. The interior of the restaurant is pleasantly furnished in order to provide a comfortable dining experience. A welcoming storefront lined with potted flowers entices visitors to enter the artfully lit dining room. Dishes are plated tastefully, and it’s clear that a lot of thought has been given to the presentation of food on the plate. But it’s not just about looks: guests consistently rave about the spicy chili pepper wontons and duck wrap.
Bo Ling’s on Jefferson Street is a trendy option for Chinese cuisine and unlike its competitors, is open late, even on weeknights. The dishes at Bo Ling’s come at a slightly higher price than your usual takeout restaurant, but the manager cultivates a dedicated staff that excels in customer service. Bo Ling’s is also especially suited for large groups. The dim sum experience, during which customers receive multiple small plates of food, is highly recommended for group dining. The restaurant is tastefully decorated with Chinese statuary and also features a full bar.
New Peking Chinese Restaurant
Centrally located in Kansas City’s Plaza District, New Peking Chinese Restaurant is known for its authentic, high quality dishes that are worth your time and attention. Customers return again and again for the tangy house chicken, Mu Shu chicken, and customizable vegetarian options. Portion sizes are generous, which makes New Peking Chinese Restaurant a great takeout option.
If you’re looking for a restaurant with a little more variety, Red Snapper might be the place for you. In addition to Chinese cuisine, this Asian fusion eatery also specializes in Korean and Thai selections. The restaurant is located by the Ward Parkway Shopping Center, which makes for a great dinner in combination with a movie at the local AMC theater. True to its name, the restaurant’s red snapper is a perennially popular dish. Customers have also heaped praise upon the Jam Bong seafood soup.
There are many more Chinese restaurants in the Kansas City area, but these independent restaurants represent some of the best and most popular choices in our area. If you’re looking for a great lunch or dinner, or something fun to do in Kansas City or Independence, look no further than Cable Dahmer Kia of Lee's Summit.
