Reasons Families Will Love the 2018 Kia Sportage

The Kia Sportage is a compact crossover SUV that offers families a vehicle with style, utility, and the latest safety features and technologies. For 2018, the Sportage now comes with the option for a blind-spot monitoring system along with some other safety technologies. Here are some of the reasons why families will love the 2018 Kia Sportage and might want to consider selling their current vehicle.

The Exterior Look and Trim Options

The Sportage has a sporty look with bold lines that make it stand out in a crowd, and it comes with Kia’s tiger nose grille. This crossover comes in three different trim levels, starting with the base LX. This has 17-inch alloy wheels and a red panel in the rear for the taillights. A step up to the EX trim will get you roof rails, leather seats, and the option to add the EX Premium package, which comes with a panoramic sunroof, and power-folding side mirrors if you add the Technology Package. The SX Turbo trim adds larger wheels, dual exhaust, and LED fog lights, and it comes standard with a panoramic sunroof along with a hands-free power liftgate, a heated steering wheel, and all the features available on the lower trims.

The Power and Performance

The two lower trims start off with the base 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine. This produces 181 horsepower and 175 pound-feet of torque. The SX turbo gets a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder that generates 240 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque with front-wheel drive or 237 horsepower if you opt for the all-wheel drive configuration. Both engines have the same 6-speed automatic transmission. All the models are fuel efficient, with the best performance going to the 2.4-liter with front-wheel drive. This combination will get you 23 miles per gallon in the city and 30 on the highway, but the 2.0-liter with front-wheel drive still gets 21 miles per gallon in the city and 26 on the highway, so it is not much of a drop.

The Technology

The children and the adults in the family are sure to love the technology in the Sportage. The lower trims have a 5-inch touch-screen display, satellite radio, and Bluetooth. You can add a larger 7- or 8-inch screen depending on the package, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity are available options. Kia also offers the UVO infotainment system.

Safety Features

The Sportage comes loaded with standard and optional safety features. All models come equipped with a rearview camera and a full suite of air bags. The LX with the Technology package has a blind-spot monitoring system with rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, and automatic emergency braking. Additional safety systems include automatic high beams, lane change assist, and front and rear parking sensors. Choose the SX Turbo trim, and all these safety features come standard. You can even learn more about the Sportage’s impressive safety rating.

These are just some of the reasons why families will love the 2018 Kia Sportage. This small SUV has everything a family needs in a compact package that is easy to drive and fun to ride in.
